TAILS & TRAILS

Off-leash group hikes

Let’s Hike Together!

Tails & Trails is an invite-only hiking group for owners and their dogs who are ready to enjoy real off-leash freedom — in nature, not in a fenced-in field. These hikes are about giving dogs the space to move, explore, and experience the world the way dogs are meant to.

Each hike is led by me, and I’ll be bringing my dog, Olive, along. I keep the group small and selective so everyone — human and dog — can have a calm, low-pressure experience on the trail. There’s no expectation for dogs to interact; they just need to be able to coexist peacefully off leash.

In my experience, there’s nothing more therapeutic and enriching for a dog than running free in nature. It’s one of the most powerful things you can offer your dog — and it’s something most people can’t easily give them on their own.

How It Works

  • Held twice monthly, year-round
We hike together in a natural, off-leash location.

  • All dogs are off leash
Participants must have strong, proofed recall — around wildlife, horses, other hikers, and other dogs.

  • Invite-only
Open only to dogs who have completed
Trail Ready or Trained For You. This ensures every dog is safe, reliable, and truly ready to enjoy this level of freedom.

Who It’s For

Tails & Trails is for owners who:

  • have completed Trail Ready or Trained For You

  • want their dogs to run free with others in a beautiful, natural setting

  • want to give their dog social opportunities without the stress and chaos of busy dog parks or daycare

  • understand that few things enrich a dog’s life more than off-leash time in nature — sniffing, exploring, and moving freely

FAQs

  • This group is only for dogs I know and have worked with. This is to keep all the dogs safe and ensure that every dog can be reliably recalled off wildlife, other hikers and dogs, horseback riders, and cyclists.

  • This would depend on your individual dog. If I feel your dog is unsafe to be around others off-leash, you won’t be invited to join.

  • This may be appropriate depending on your individual dog. For some reactive dogs, this could be incredibly therapeutic, but proper training must be done to be considered.

  • Locations will be provided only to members.

  • They will vary. Some will be morning and some evenings. Some will be weekdays and some weekends.

During hotter months, we will hike early and late to avoid the heat. During winter, we will hike earlier to catch daylight.

  • We will likely hike 3-5 miles on relatively flat ground, but there may be some hills. These will be on dirt hiking trails and may include uneven or rocky terrain. You’re welcome to turn around at any time if it’s getting too difficult.
