About Carolyn

Spokane’s Best Dog Trainer

Hello!

I’m Carolyn, a dog trainer, Spokane native, Army veteran, and owner of two pointy-eared, trouble-making pups, and I want you to have the life you imagined with your dog - a life of fun, adventure, and amazing memories with your best friend. ‍ ‍

And sometimes people need a little help getting there!

Whether your dog is reactive, just ignoring you, or needs help with manners, I can help and give you the dog of your dreams.

Who I Work With

While happy to work with most behavior problems and training struggles, I specialize in working with Spokane dogs who struggle with reactivity.

I love seeing reactive dogs rehabbed, off leash, and happily playing with new dog friends.

I know firsthand how frustrating it is to not live the life you imagined with your dog because of their behavior, and it’s why I’m so passionate about helping dogs and their humans live their best lives together.

If you’re tired of struggling on your own or working with trainers and not getting results, you’re in the right place!

How I Train

My training is practical and focuses on real-world results. I take a balanced approach with a huge focus on play and changing the dog’s emotions.

We don’t train in an empty training facility, we train in the real world with real-world distractions, so your dog will be solidly trained anywhere. Most of my clients started with another dog trainer and now can’t get their dog to listen without treats or outside of their living room - I don’t train like that.

I want to stop bad behavior, teach good behavior, build motivation, and leave you with a dog who is happy to listen to you - so you can do more fun stuff with them!

Why I’m Different From All The Other Spokane Trainers

I don’t rely on endless "watch me" drills, vague “trust-building,” or incessantly bribing dogs with food.

Nor do I rely on unfair e-collar use, constant punishment, perfect obedience, and shutting down the dog to get control.

My training delivers real outcomes you can see and use, with methods that are clear and fair and work for all dogs, regardless of age or breed.

In my nearly 20 years of experience, I’ve explored numerous methodologies, studied the teachings of many well-known trainers, and travelled the country to learn more, because as an owner I wasted a lot of money on charlatan trainers who were happy to take my money and offer cookie-cutter advice that didn’t get me anywhere.

I knew I wanted to do better.

Good Dog Training isn’t a franchise or cookie-cutter dog training business. It’s a local small business built through blood, sweat, tears, and a determination to never stop learning so I can do better for our dogs.

Spokane’s Only Training Without Conflict® Trainer

What does that mean for you?

Training Without Conflict® isn't another technique layered on top of what I already knew — it's a completely different way of understanding and communicating with dogs, built on real behavioral science instead of trends or gimmicks. I'm only the third trainer certified in this method in Washington State, and the only one in Eastern Washington.

That means the way I evaluate your dog, work with your dog, and talk to you about your dog is fundamentally different from standard training. It's not about adding another command to the list — it's about changing the relationship and motivation underneath all of it, so listening isn't something your dog has to be managed into. It's something they choose.
