But what about vaccines?

It is a myth that puppies need to be fully vaccinated to start class. It’s actually a big mistake to wait to start puppy class! Research shows that puppies are not at increased risk of disease attending puppy class with 1 vaccine compared to being fully vaccinated.

The American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior states that it should be the standard of care to start socialization and puppy class at 8 weeks. Because the socialization period ends at 12 weeks, you don’t have much time! If you want a social, friendly, well-trained dog, start puppy class now!

Embrace the Puppy Adventure!

It all begins with a new puppy, big dreams, and lots of excitement! Maybe you want a furry friend to hike or run with. Maybe you want a dog to share with the world, to take to local pubs, dog parks, school pickups, or neighborhood barbecues. Or maybe you have bigger goals for your new little pup.

Whatever it is, how and when you start your training journey can make all the difference.

Frequently Asked Puppy Class Questions

  • Unfortunately, no. Puppy Socialization Class is geared toward younger puppies.

Because the socialization period is over at 12 weeks and adolescence starts at 18 weeks, there is little benefit to Puppy Socialization Class at 16+ weeks.

Instead, dive right into the awesome Good Dog Class and start learning all that really cool obedience stuff!

  • Puppy Socialization Class is focused on socialization, including off-leash play, and Good Dog Class is focused on training and does not include any dog-dog interactions.

  • Absolutely! The more the merrier! (Kids should be able to behave appropriately during class.)

  • Then they absolutely need to come to class - the sooner the better! Puppy Class won’t address specific behavioral concerns, like reactivity or resource guarding, but it’s a great start!

  • Unfortunately, this is a common myth, and a harmful one at that.

Research shows puppy class is perfectly safe for puppies as long as vaccines are current. The risk of lifelong behavior problems from skipping puppy class is significantly higher than the risk of parvo.

Also, did you know studies show that puppies who attend puppy class are much more likely to stay in their home for life?

  • Once you’ve signed up, there are no refunds. We’re saving a space just for you, and trust me - you don’t want to miss out on class! If your puppy is sick, you’ll simply attend class without your pup so you can stay caught up on training!

What Puppy Owners Are Saying About Puppy Class

  • Puppy class was a blast! Chewy had so much fun running and playing with other puppies, and I learned so many new things.

    Deb & Chewy

  • My new puppy, Max, was so incredibly shy. Carolyn was amazing at helping him feel more confident (and me!), and it wasn't long until he was joining in the puppy play!

    Katie & Max

  • Josie was so wild and kept biting us. We were getting so frustrated, and then we found this class and it felt like a godsend. The play time was so good for her and really helped tire her out, and we learned how to help her be less wild. Can't recommend puppy class enough!

  • I was so overwhelmed with where to start with Luna. We've done other classes with our previous dog, and Carolyn's class was so much more fun and educational. I'm so glad I found Good Dog Training!
