Best Dog Food & Gear

MY FAVORITE DOG STUFF!

I get asked all the time what my favorite treats/food/harnesses, etc are for dogs, so I’ve put together a comprehensive list of all my favorite dog things, tested over the years by my own dogs and loads of client dogs!

DOG FOOD

I’m a big fan of raw feeding, and I mostly feed BJ’s but also add in Green Juju sometimes. In addition to food, both offer amazing supplemental food, like goat milk, whole sardines, veggie blends, and probiotics. For those who want to stay with kibble, I’d go with Farmina.

TREATS

My favorite treats are meat and not much else. No junky fillers for my dogs! I use a lot of freeze-dried dog food for treats as they’re cheaper than treats and healthier.

HARNESSES

Good harnesses are comfy for your dog and don’t restrict range of motion. I like the Ruffwear and Hurtta harnesses for everyday wear, and the Balance harness is what I recommend if you want a front-clip harness.

TRAINING TOYS

To use toys as a training reward, they must be something really fun for your dog. The tug-e-nuff toys are made with real animal fur to add exciting scent and texture. Longer chase toys are fun for dogs with a prey drive who enjoy chasing moving things. The Alphafoam balls and puller rings are both made with a unique material that allows your dog to sink their teeth in - not a hard rubber. This tends to be very satisfying for bitey dogs and is safe on teeth. To be clear, training toys are just that - for training. They’re not to just hand over to your dog unsupervised, as they will likely ruin the toy.

CAR GEAR

I love keeping my dogs comfy in the car, especially my seniors. I would absolutely splurge and add on the waterproof liner for the Backseat Barker to protect it from accidents and dog messes.

DOG BEDS

My dogs absolutely love both of these beds. The HiK9 beds are great for dogs who like elevation, and I love them for teaching ‘place’. Get the leg extensions to make it even taller and save some space or give your dog a fun window perch. I’ve had my Big Barker bed for close to a decade now, and it still looks amazing. Super easy to unzip and clean, especially with the addition of the waterproof liner. Amazingly thick, plush foam for arthritic joints - and it’s made in the US!

CBD

I’m a huge fan of CBD for arthritis and anxiety. I love ElleVet for their higher doses and their addition of CBDA. Treatibles is a lower dose but a slightly less expensive price point.

CHEWS

Chews should be healthy and from animals, not full of preservatives or plastic, like Nylabones. I use bully sticks, tendons, bones, trachea, ears, horns, etc. These are all healthy for my dogs and things that will keep them entertained. When looking at antlers, I recommend going for the split ones versus whole. Dogs like the marrow in the center, which is much harder for them to get to in the whole antlers.

TREAT POUCHES

I like a treat pouch that’s large enough to hold plenty of treats, poop bags, my keys, and my phone. I also need one that’s easy to quickly get into, and these are my top 3 picks.
